“City of Knowledge of Setúbal already has a Strategic Plan”

Cidade do Conhecimento, a project by The Pitroda Group LLC, developed in close partnership with the Setúbal City Council, is in progress and its Strategic Plan was presented today to the Advisory Council.

The project, “is going to bring together in Setúbal, in a new urban area to build, among several other areas, catalysts for companies and institutions linked to technological and knowledge development”.

The Strategic Plan, which is being prepared by the consultancy CEDRU – Center for Studies and Regional and Urban Development, defends the “implementation of a new social paradigm, based on working in partnership, with community actors to take an active role in the construction of a new urbanity ”.

The president of Pitroda Group Portugal, Gustavo Miedzir, underlined at the beginning of the presentation that Cidade do Conhecimento “is an investment of around one billion euros. Let there be no doubt that this city will become a reality, ”he said.

The Strategic Plan, which can be further improved with the contributions collected, aims to be “the theoretical basis that will make the master plan a reality, the document responsible for the execution, on the ground, of the process of building the City of Knowledge.

A long-term project with a strong investment

The vice-president of the Setúbal City Council, Manuel Pisco, summed up the future City of Knowledge as a “new urban area focused on knowledge, associated with a knowledge industry. Societies have been commercializing knowledge for decades, but not with such a dimension ”- he said.

The mayor also guaranteed that “a simple city is not going to be made. It is about creating a new model of local society ”.

The future City of Knowledge of Setúbal should respect a wide set of criteria capable of meeting the needs of populations in the future, particularly in terms of urban convenience, such as issues related to mobility, but also be able to respond to the challenges ahead, namely environmental issues.

The Strategic Plan – according to a statement released by the Sadina autarchy – “is based on a multiscale model, in which the importance of urban clustering is highlighted, which encompasses areas such as mobility and logistics, technological specialization, capable of attracting companies and professionals from sectors such as nanotechnology or robotics, and the innovation ecosystem, which should have the construction of a new congress center as its key ”.

Gustavo Miedzir, president of Pitroda Group Portugal, stressed that this is a long-term plan with a strong investment, adding: “The project needs the involvement of everyone to be of excellence. The volume of investment it represents is remarkable. Today’s reality allows you to bring it to Portugal, but it is not known how investors will think for three years. For this reason, it is necessary to be diligent ”, underlined

Sérgio Barroso, associate of CEDRU, who led the presentation of the Strategic Plan, emphasized “the importance of effectively responding to challenges arising from the areas of“ management ”, related to the ability to attract talent and international investment to the project, as well as“ operationalization ”, related to the bureaucratic agility necessary to enable the realization of subprojects”.

Advisory Council brings together all the main partners

The City of Knowledge of Setúbal foresees the construction of modern infrastructures, in an area of 180 hectares in the area of Vale da Rosa, close to an important industrial and services hub of the municipality, as well as the campus of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, assuming itself “As a place where people and companies will live, work, cooperate and innovate together”.

The project will include the construction of offices, residential area, hotel, conference center, hospital, schools and universities, shopping areas and car parks, as well as leisure, art and culture centers.
