Cluster Logística

The Knowledge City as a global competence center in the logistics sector.

Logistic chains are the circulatory system of the economy, giving access to the products necessary for sustaining life. In recent years, the economic performance of supply chains has improved, but their environmental impact and potential vulnerability have made them a major source of concern.

The remodeling and improvements in the supply chains result, in part, from the response to technological developments that currently mark society. The online retail boom is spurring the development of logistics infrastructures. Retailers are also increasingly demanding storage spaces, both in and around urban areas, to guarantee the same day or the next day’s supply and deliveries. A faster and more reliable transport leads to the centralization of the inventory in fewer and larger warehouses, grouped around those in access to the main roads or in the vicinity of cargo terminals.

Disruptive technologies are needed to influence the sector

It is essential to create new research and innovation centers in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, focused on finding solutions that can help the logistics sector.

The use of new technologies, new instruments and equipment will be intensified in the coming years. The best use of the multiplicity of new technological frontiers will be decisive for the affirmation of the logistics cluster, as a structuring element of intelligent specialization at Setúbal Knowledge City.

The regional innovation ecosystem, bringing together universities, institutions and research centers and companies, has generated important advances in logistics. This relationship should be enhanced in order to create greater added value and greater competitiveness to the regional offer.

The attraction for the Knowledge City, of important sectorial associations, of national scope, is fundamental to constitute a global center of competences in the logistic sector.

Physical proximity and working relationships are decisive for the transfer of knowledge, for the enhancement and strengthening of the elements of articulation of the value chain.
