25 February 2020 – The Indian-born engineer and entrepreneur Sam Pitroda has proposed investing 700 to 800 million euros in what would be called the Knowledge City in Setúbal, just south of Portugal’s capital. The mega-development, if it proceeds, will be located on 180.2 hectares of land in Vale da Rosa. Norman Foster, who is famous for his work on the Gerkin in London and the Hearst Tower in New York, will design the project.
The investor’s firm, the Pitroda Group LLC, is planning to build universities, a hospital, housing, a research center, technology parks, hotels, and leisure areas, such as libraries and swimming pools. Municipal authorities demonstrated cautious enthusiasm with the project while emphasizing that it is still in the very early planning stage.
